ARTIST STATEMENT

I have always seen the world through abstract eyes. As a Colour Field painter, I use colour and form to construct my works. In this collection of paintings ; however; I intend to push and expand my boundaries by exploring other avenues of the language of art. The concept of language is a vehicle of
expression and if we isolate any two terms we are able to relay its meaning through the use of symbols, phonetically or otherwise. If we apply these ideas to art, we would ask ourselves what class of relations is the language of art required upon to express and what is it expected to connect. This Language is not
a conversation between person to person but rather it is adapted to give human understanding a certain profound intelligible reality. However like dreams,
“ art is associated with desires which move and guide us. In its magic as in its funeral and religions
aspect, it has always unfolded a screen on which we project our metaphysical cravings, the desire to
confer everlastingness and a general validity on the particular, whether it be and individual or a culture.
Men have always believed that the ultra mundane speaks to them confidentially in their dreams, and
when the dreamers are kings and heroes it is the Spirit of History which expresses itself thus, revealing
to them some of its secrets. “
If we look at the ideas of the artist as singular and separate, on subjects that are not especially his own, they are of a secondary interest to us. What the Artist has to say in these matters must be, however, express in the ordinary language of the day. In addition, when we experience a painter's work we
expect it to reveal to us what the art of the painting is thinking and feeling on a given subject at a given moment. Taking this ideas in consideration, through the use of symbols and personal experience, I am exploring our belief system and values, in hopes of revealing how it is torn down and reborn like the
Phoenix.
The Phoenix through out history has been a symbol of immortality and rebirth .The Phoenix is a creature that had the power to rise from its own ashes . In general it symbolizes renewal however it represents transformation from death to rebirth .The ultimate symbol of strength and renewal . Its
feathers are composed of 5 colours, Black, Red,Green,Yellow. Representing the virtues of loyalty, honesty, decorum &justice. A ultimate symbol of strength like the sun who dies each night to be reborn again in the morning. Not only is it a symbol of renewal, it can be a person or thing which is
reguarded as remarkable.
“It might be perhaps claimed that the supreme gift we expect of art, the one that justifies the indulgence
man has always shown for its activities is that, through images which translates an essential but
previously unknown basis of existence , it should do us the thought of the Creative Intelligence on the
essential facts and riddles of our generic life, that it should put us in contact with our own Soul.”
